Experience 3 Days in the Sahara Desert
Spending time in the Sahara Desert will give you a sense of the timelessness of this place. Our three-day tour will allow you to experience the vastness of the world’s largest hot desert. The Sahara is a place of great beauty and incredible stillness; in three days you will have an unforgettable desert experience.
Day one will see us cross the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, the highest pass in Morocco. The next day we will pass through the Todra Gorge, a narrow corridor with sheer cliffs 300m (985ft) high, where we will have panoramic views of the area. We will arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon and from here we will be taken by a camel guide across the sand dunes to a Bedouin camp. You will spend the night in the desert, experiencing the immensity and silence of the Sahara. On the third day, we will travel to Fes; we may come across nomadic shepherds with their flocks as we travel.
Day 1
Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley
We will pick you up at your riad and set off to cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass – at 2260m (7417ft) it’s the highest pass in Morocco. Enjoy amazing views of this fascinating landscape and the Berber villages it contains, and see the Telouet Kasbah, one-time residence of the pasha of Marrakesh. Continuing south we arrive at the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, probably the most celebrated, filmed and photographed Kasbah in Morocco. Featured in numerous films (including Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheltering Sky and Gladiator), it is the best-preserved Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continuing on to Ouarzazate, you will have the opportunity to explore the world famous Atlas Film Studios and the Taourirt Kasbah. Travelling along the Thousand Kasbah’s Road, we arrive at Dades Gorge where you will stay overnight in a hotel overlooking the valley.
Day 2
Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Rissani – Merzouga – Sahara
We take the road to Merzouga through the Todra Gorge, a narrow corridor with sheer cliffs 300m (985ft) high rising up dramatically each side. These are the most impressive cliffs in southern Morocco and they are well known to experienced mountaineers. In Todra Valley you will have a panoramic view of the surrounding area containing old mud houses. Passing through villages like Tinjdad, Mallaab and Touroug we arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon to be welcomed by your camel guide who will take you across the sand dunes to a Bedouin camp, where you will spend the night experiencing the immensity and silence of the desert.
Day 3
Merzouga – Erfoud – Ziz Valley – Ceder Forest -Ifrane – Fes
After a beautiful sunrise in the Sahara desert, you will camel trek back to Merzouga for breakfast in a hotel or in a Berber family house. We then leave for Fes, crossing the heart of the Middle Atlas Mountains through the Talghoumt Pass where nomadic shepherds tend their flocks. We arrive at the Cedar Forest – the largest one in Morocco – and home to the native Barbary apes and take time out to admire this incredible forest. Next, we pass through Ifrane, known as “Little Switzerland” due to its likeness to a Swiss alpine resort. Our journey ends at the Imperial City of Fes.
