The adventure awaits!
Day 1
Marrakesh – Telouet Kasbah – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
Your 4-day Sahara Desert tour begins with a morning pickup from your riad in Marrakech. We set off towards Ouarzazate, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass—the highest road pass in Morocco at 2,260m (7,417ft). As we wind through the mountains, enjoy stunning panoramic views of Berber villages and dramatic landscapes.
Our first stop is the Telouet Kasbah, once the grand residence of the Pasha of Marrakech. Continuing south, we arrive at Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most famous UNESCO-listed Kasbah, known for its appearances in films such as Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheltering Sky, and Gladiator.
Upon reaching Ouarzazate, you will explore the world-renowned Atlas Film Studios, where many Hollywood blockbusters have been filmed. You will also visit the Taourirt and Tiffoultoute Kasbahs, offering a glimpse into Morocco’s rich architectural heritage. The day ends with an overnight stay in a hotel with a pool, providing the perfect place to relax before the next leg of the journey.
Day 2
Ouarzazate – Agdz-Draa Valley – Tazzarine – Merzouga
After breakfast, we follow the Agdz road along the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river valley, where you’ll see traditional mud-brick Kasbahs and lush oases stretching across the landscape. As we pass through small towns and villages, you’ll gain insight into the authentic Berber way of life.
We stop for lunch in Rissani, where you can try traditionally baked Berber pizza, a local delicacy. In the late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Here, your camel guide will lead you on an unforgettable trek across the golden sand dunes to a Bedouin desert camp, where you will spend the night under a sky filled with thousands of stars.
Day 3
Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley
Wake up early to experience a spectacular Sahara sunrise before camel trekking back to Merzouga for breakfast and a refreshing shower.
We then travel to Erfoud, known as “Fossil Town,” where you can browse stalls selling crystals, semi-precious stones, and ancient fossils. If interested, you can visit Usine de Marmar, a workshop showcasing the process of fossil excavation and polishing.
Next, we journey through the Todra Gorge, a dramatic canyon with 300m (985ft) sheer cliffs, making it one of the most impressive natural landscapes in southern Morocco. The gorge is popular among rock climbers, but it’s just as breathtaking for those who simply want to take in the scenery. After lunch in Todra, we continue to the Dades Valley, known for its striking rock formations, including the famous “monkey toes”. You’ll also see traditional mud-brick Kasbahs dotting the valley before spending the night in a hotel or riad overlooking the Dades Valley.
Day 4
Dades – Rose Valley – Skoura – High Atlas – Marrakesh
Today, we take an off-road route between the Dades Valley and the Valley of Roses, where you’ll meet local nomads, some of whom still live in caves and tents. In El-Kelaa M’Gouna, up to 4,000 tonnes of rose petals are harvested every spring for rosewater production and the perfume industry. If you visit in May, you might experience the Rose Festival, a lively local celebration.
As we continue toward Skoura, you’ll see beautiful Kasbahs set among lush palm groves. The town itself is surrounded by an impressive oasis, home to some of the most stunning Kasbahs in southern Morocco.
Crossing the High Atlas Mountains once more via the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, we return to Marrakech in the evening. Before your tour ends, experience the bustling Jemma el-Fna Square, filled with snake charmers, storytellers, musicians, fortune tellers, and even teeth pullers—a truly vibrant end to your Moroccan adventure.
The tour concludes in Marrakech, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Morocco’s diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
