4 Day Fes to Marrakech via The Sahara Desert
This four-day desert route between Fes and Marrakech unfolds with intention, giving time for landscapes to change and moments to linger. The experience is designed to remain flexible, allowing the journey to evolve around your interests.
Tour Plan :
Day 1: Fes -Ifrane – Cedar Forest – Ziz Valley- Merzouga
We'll pick you up from your accommodation in Fes and embark on an unforgettable journey to Merzouga. Along the way, you'll traverse the Middle Atlas and Higher Atlas Mountains, passing through picturesque landscapes. We'll pass through Ifrane, known as "Little Switzerland" for its alpine scenery. We will stop is Azrou, a charming Berber village nestled within the renowned cedar forest, where you might catch a glimpse of Barbary apes. Continuing through the Tizi n’ Talghamt Pass to Midelt, we'll marvel at the magnificent Ziz Gorges sculpted from volcanic rock. As we venture through the lush Ziz Valley, dotted with Berber villages, we'll make stops for panoramic views before reaching Erfoud and Rissani. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you'll be greeted with a refreshing glass of mint tea before checking in to your riad or hotel.
Day 2: Merzouga Exploration and Desert Camp
After a leisurely breakfast, we'll embark on a captivating exploration of the Merzouga region. Our journey includes a visit to the Gnawa village of Khamlia, where you'll immerse yourself in the rich traditions of Gnawa music and culture. Nearby, the serene Merzouga Lake awaits, home to a vibrant bird population including flamingos. We'll then venture to the historic city of Rissani, once a pivotal trading hub for Saharan caravans. Stroll through its bustling souk, filled with aromatic spices, fresh produce, and colorful textiles. In the afternoon, experience the timeless allure of the Sahara Desert as you embark on a camel trek guided by a seasoned camel handler. Dinner will be served at our desert camp, where you'll spend the night under the star-studded sky.
Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorges - Dades Valley
Rise early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes before enjoying breakfast and a shower at the camp. We'll then journey back to Merzouga, marveling at the ever-changing hues of the Erg Chebbi dunes along the way. Continuing our adventure, we'll pass through Rissani, Tinghir, and the Todra Gorges, renowned for their towering cliffs and narrow passageways. Opt for a scenic hike through the gorge to encounter local communities and gain insight into their way of life. After lunch amidst the rugged beauty of the gorge, we'll proceed to the Dades Valley, famed for its striking rock formations and ancient kasbahs. You'll spend the night in a cozy Riad or hotel nestled in the heart of the valley.
Day 4: Dades - Rose Valley – Skoura – Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech
We'll journey through the enchanting Dades Valley, known as the "Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs," offering ample opportunities for capturing stunning photographs. Our route takes us through the rose city of Kalaat Mgouna, where you can visit a cooperative to purchase fragrant rosewater.
Continuing our drive, we'll pass by the majestic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site steeped in history and culture. Continue our journey through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, reaching an altitude of 2260m (7417ft). Enjoy breathtaking views of the rugged landscape and Berber villages along the way. Finally, we'll descend from the mountains and conclude our tour in the vibrant city of Marrakech.
