5 Day Morocco Desert Tour: Round Trip from Marrakech

This five-day desert experience offers greater depth and variation, blending expansive landscapes with historic routes and moments of stillness, all within a seamless round journey from Marrakech.

01
Day 1: Marrakech – Tichka Pass – Skoura – Rose Valley - Dades

We'll pick you up from your accommodation in Marrakech and embark on a mesmerizing journey to the Dades Valley. Passing through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass nestled amidst the High Atlas Mountains, you'll be treated to stunning views of Berber villages and ever-changing landscapes. En route, we'll stop at Ouarzazate to visit the magnificent Kasbah Taourirt, a true marvel of Berber architecture. Lunch will be served by the Kasbah before we continue our journey through the "Thousand Kasbahs" road to the Dades Gorge. Along the way, we'll pause at Skoura in the Birds Valley to admire the 18th-century Kasbah of Ameridhil and explore Kalaat Mgouna, renowned for its roses. Finally, we'll reach the Dades Valley, where you'll spend the night in a charming riad or hotel.

Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorge - Merzouga Desert

We'll set off from the Dades Valley towards the majestic Todra Gorge, famous for its towering red cliffs and awe-inspiring scenery. Here, you'll have the opportunity to leisurely stroll along the gorge, soaking in the natural splendor that surrounds you.

Continuing our journey, we'll head towards Merzouga, where a warm welcome awaits you with traditional mint tea. Once acquainted with your camel and experienced guide, you'll embark on a captivating camel trek through the captivating Erg Chebbi dunes to our luxurious desert camp. Along the way, we'll pause to witness a breathtaking sunset amidst the golden sands of the desert. As evening falls, indulge in a sumptuous dinner served under the shimmering stars or within the cozy confines of your canvas tent, complete with modern amenities for your comfort.

Day 3: Merzouga and Desert Exploration Day

Rise early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes before enjoying breakfast and a shower at the camp. We'll then journey back to Merzouga, marveling at the ever-changing hues of the Erg Chebbi dunes along the way.

You will start your exploration of the Merzouga region. Our journey includes a visit to the Gnawa village of Khamlia, where you'll immerse yourself in the rich traditions of Gnawa music and culture. Nearby, the serene Merzouga Lake awaits, home to a vibrant bird population including flamingos. We'll then venture to the historic city of Rissani, once a pivotal trading hub for Saharan caravans. Stroll through its bustling souk, filled with aromatic spices, fresh produce, and colorful textiles.

Upon return to your accommodation, where you'll be greeted with a refreshing glass of mint tea before checking in to your Riad.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Alnif – Agdz - Draa Valley - Ouarzazate

Departing for Ouarzazate, our journey takes us through different villages and towns of the deep south, known for rich history and culture. Should you not have explored Rissani on the previous day, we'll stop here to immerse ourselves in its storied past. Once known as Sijilmassa, Rissani holds the legacy of being the foundation of the Alaouite Dynasty, the esteemed ruling family of Morocco. As we traverse its streets, adorned with veiled women and hooded men, we'll witness the traditional essence of this captivating Moroccan town.

Continuing our route, we'll venture via Alnif, renowned for its fossil treasures, adding a touch of geological fascination to our journey. Our path then leads us to Agdez, passing through Tazzarine along the way. En route, we'll be treated to panoramic vistas of the Draa Valley, where hundreds of ancient Berber Kasbahs dot the landscape, standing as silent sentinels of bygone eras.

Finally, we'll arrive in Ouarzazate, a city steeped in history and allure. Here, nestled amidst the majestic Atlas Mountains, you'll find respite in a charming riad or hotel, where you can unwind and reflect on the day's enriching adventures.

Day 5: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou - Telouet Kasbah - Marrakech

We'll set out for Marrakech via the majestic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site steeped in history and culture, probably the most celebrated, filmed, and photographed Kasbah in Morocco. Featured in numerous films (including Lawrence of Arabia, The Sheltering Sky and Gladiator), it is the best-preserved Kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Journeying through the picturesque Ounilla Valley, we'll make a stop at the Telouet Kasbah, once a prominent trading post for Berber caravans. Immerse yourself in the panoramic views and rich history of the region before continuing our drive through the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, offering spectacular vistas of the High Atlas Mountains. Finally, we'll arrive in Marrakech, where our memorable desert adventure comes to an end.
