16 Day Morocco Tour Itinerary: From Tangier to Casablanca

Sixteen days allow Morocco to reveal itself slowly and in full dimension, beginning in Tangier and concluding in Casablanca. This extended private journey is shaped by variety rather than haste, offering time to absorb the country’s landscapes, cultures, and changing rhythms—while remaining entirely customisable to reflect how deeply you wish to explore.

Day 1: Arrival in Tangier

Welcome to Morocco! Upon arrival at Tangier airport or port, you will be warmly greeted by your private driver from Deep Morocco Tours. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore the historical medina, visit the Kasbah Museum, or take in the sweeping views from Cape Spartel and the Caves of Hercules. Tangier offers a fascinating blend of North African and European influences. Overnight stay in a charming riad in Tangier.

Day 2: Explore Tangier - Chefchaouen

After breakfast, enjoy a short morning tour of Tangier if time permits, then begin your journey towards the Rif Mountains. Stop in Tetouan, a whitewashed Andalusian town with a strong Spanish influence. Continue to the blue-hued town of Chefchaouen, nestled in the mountains. Take time to relax and wander through its serene alleyways and vibrant artisan shops. Overnight in a traditional guesthouse in Chefchaouen.

Day 3: Chefchaouen Exploring Day

Spend a leisurely day exploring Chefchaouen. Enjoy a relaxed walk through the medina with its distinctive blue buildings and intricate doorways. Visit the Ras El Ma spring, climb to the Spanish Mosque for panoramic views, and browse the local handicraft markets. Chefchaouen is known for its calm atmosphere and artistic vibe. In the evening, unwind at a rooftop café with mint tea while watching the sunset. Overnight in Chefchaouen.

Day 4: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

Depart Chefchaouen after breakfast and drive through the picturesque countryside to the Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander among its ancient mosaics and columns. Continue to Meknes for a brief visit of this imperial city's highlights, including Bab Mansour and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. Arrive in Fes in the evening and settle into a riad in the heart of the old medina.

Day 5: Full Day Exploring Fes with Local Guide

Explore Fes, the spiritual and cultural capital of Morocco, with a knowledgeable local guide. Visit the famous Al-Qarawiyyin University, the oldest in the world, the Bou Inania Madrasa, the tanneries, and the bustling souks. Discover hidden treasures within the narrow labyrinthine streets of the Fes El Bali. Enjoy a traditional lunch and delve into the rich history of this medieval city. Overnight in your Fes riad.

Day 6: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Merzouga

Today, journey south through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, known as "Little Switzerland," then continue through cedar forests where you may spot Barbary apes. Pause in Midelt for lunch before driving through the dramatic Ziz Valley and into the Sahara region. Arrive in Merzouga in the early evening and check into a comfortable riad near the dunes. Relax and prepare for your desert adventure.

Day 7: Merzouga – Camel Trek – Desert Camp

Enjoy a morning to explore Merzouga and its surroundings—perhaps visiting a nomadic family or the village of Khamlia, known for its Gnawa music. In the late afternoon, ride a camel into the golden Erg Chebbi dunes as the sun begins to set. Arrive at your luxury desert camp for a magical night under the stars. Day 8: Merzouga - Rissani - Todra Gorges - Dades Valley

After sunrise and breakfast in the desert, head towards Rissani, the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty. Drive along the Dades Valley, known as the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, and admire the dramatic rock formations. Overnight in a lovely guesthouse in the Dades Valley.

Day 9: Dades – Rose Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate

Depart Dades Valley and journey through the scenic Rose Valley, known for its fragrant blooms in spring. Continue to Skoura, home to historic kasbahs and palm groves. Stop at the beautifully restored Kasbah Amridil. Arrive in Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Morocco," where many films were shot. Visit the Taourirt Kasbah or relax at your charming riad. Overnight in Ouarzazate.

Day 10: Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

Visit the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, a famous ksar and filming location for many movies. Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the dramatic Tizi n’Tichka Pass, enjoying panoramic views and Berber villages along the way. Arrive in Marrakech by late afternoon. Settle into your riad and soak in the energy of the Red City. Enjoy dinner in the lively Djemaa el-Fna square. Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 11: Full Day Exploring Marrakech

Day 12: Marrakech (Free Day or Optional Hammam & Cooking Class)

Today is yours to enjoy as you wish. Choose to relax in your riad or visit a traditional hammam for a rejuvenating spa experience. If you love cuisine, join a Moroccan cooking class where you can learn to make authentic dishes. Alternatively, enjoy another day of exploring Marrakech at your own pace or unwind at a rooftop café. Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 13: Marrakech – Essaouira

After breakfast, drive to the laid-back coastal town of Essaouira. Along the way, you may stop at an argan oil cooperative. Arrive and explore the charming medina, the ramparts, the fishing port, and local art galleries. Essaouira offers a mix of culture, beach, and fresh seafood. Enjoy a seafood lunch by the sea and check in to a cozy riad inside the old town.

Day 14: Essaouira Exploring Day

Spend the morning strolling through Essaouira’s artisan shops, watch local woodworkers, or enjoy a walk along the beach. This is a perfect day to relax, reflect on your trip, and take in the sea breeze. In the afternoon, you may opt for a hammam, a horse ride on the beach, or simply enjoy your final coastal sunset. Overnight in Essaouira.

Day 15: Essaouira - Casablanca (Drive Along the Coast)

After breakfast, depart Essaouira and travel along the scenic Atlantic coast towards Casablanca. Enjoy views of the coastline and stop for lunch along the way. Arrive in Casablanca and take time to visit the iconic Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest in the world, and walk along the Corniche. Enjoy your final evening in Morocco at a seaside café or restaurant. Overnight in Casablanca.

Day 16: Departure Day – Airport Transfer

After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, enjoy a relaxing morning before your transfer to Casablanca International Airport.
